Our Mission

To provide clear, accurate, and accessible insurance requirement information for everyone. We believe understanding mandatory coverage shouldn't require a law degree or hours of research.

Insurance requirements live in official sources that are hard to search and harder to read — dense statutes, scattered DMV and Department of Insurance pages, PDFs that go stale without notice. Coverage Criteria exists to translate that material into a single, consistent, plain-language reference: every guide researched from primary sources, structured the same way, and marked with the date it was last checked.

What Drives Us

Our core values guide everything we research and publish

User-Centered Guides

Every guide is created for real people who need quick, clear answers about insurance requirements—no legal jargon, no unnecessary complexity.

Sourced & Dated

We research official sources—state DMVs, insurance departments, and regulatory documents—and mark every guide with a "last verified" date so you know how current it is. We are working through the library adding a linked source list to each guide.

Plain Language

Complex insurance regulations translated into simple, scannable guides with tables, bullet points, and FAQs anyone can understand.

Comprehensive Coverage

From state auto insurance to contractor requirements to gig economy coverage—we cover the requirements that matter most.

Our Journey

From confusing regulations to clear, accessible guides

25

Foundation Established

Coverage Criteria launched with its initial guides on state auto insurance and gig-economy coverage — DoorDash, Uber Eats, Amazon Flex, and more — as the starting point for a state-by-state, industry-by-industry library.

26

386 Guides Published

Expanded to motorcycle and boat insurance for all 50 states, 20+ business types, 15+ contractor trades, compliance guides (SR-22, FR-44, DOT, FMCSA), travel insurance, and professional liability guides.

Now

Verification Over Volume

We have paused new publishing to work back through the existing library: linking every requirement to its official source, re-checking figures against current state filings, and building the comparison tools that make the data easier to use than the statutes it comes from.

What Makes Us Different

Our Commitment to You

We understand that finding accurate insurance requirement information can be frustrating. Government websites are confusing, PDFs are outdated, and insurance companies want to sell you more than you need. That's why we're committed to providing:

Accurate Information

All content is researched from official state DMVs, insurance departments, and regulatory documents, and carries a verification date. Linked source lists are being added across the library.

No Legal Advice

We provide factual information about requirements, not personalized recommendations. For specific situations, we recommend consulting licensed insurance professionals.

Regular Updates

Insurance requirements can change. We watch for regulatory updates and refresh guides accordingly — but always confirm time-sensitive figures with the issuing agency before relying on them.

Clear Communication

Every guide is written in plain language with tables, bullet points, and FAQs. We translate complex regulations into information anyone can understand.
